This detailed floral pattern is based on a late 18th-century cotton textile created by a wax resist process called batik, one of the oldest forms of textile printing. Batik designs were applied in wax, the cloth was dipped in dye and finally the wax was removed. The process was repeated for each color used. Back of placemat and runners is solid navy.
